Details of Courses Offered
We offer a range of courses covering personal safety issues, exploring the principles of personal security; understanding the process of conflict escalation aiming to avoid flashpoint by learning what interventions can effectively be used to diffuse and control a situation of conflict at each stage of build up.
1. Managing Difficult and Abusive Customers
A short introductory session suitable for any member of the workforce who feel themselves to be vulnerable to abuse. Areas covered:- understanding your own reaction to threat, use of verbal tactics, body language and proxemics to control and reduce conflict.
Look at how conflict can escalate into violence, understand what tactics may be used to prevent this happening.
2. Personal Safety
When staff are under pressure both in terms of workload and increased exposure to threatening and aggressive behaviour personal safety is often compromised.
We explore the principles of personal security and examine risk factors in the workplace - physical environment, clients, job role, communications, risk taking, and most importantly, the "human factor" when under pressure, developing workable strategies to reduce and manage risk.
3. Personal Safety for Lone Workers
In addition to the material covered in Personal Safety, this session looks at the additional risks to personal security that lone working can bring. For example, we examine risk awareness in unfamiliar environments - covering street attacks and target hardening - the art of invisibility.
Working in other peoples homes. It's not them it's their friends and animals! Car safety, Work/home transition. What if? - ensuring back up is in place when problems do arise. Communications, reporting incidents and near misses.
4. Breakaway Techniques
Learn and practice a range of simple techniques which can be used to help to survive and escape from attack. This module can be taught separately or incorporated into other sessions.
